The Meaning of Easter and Passover

The Meaning of Easter

"I declare unto you the gospel . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:1-4"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." John 11:25

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9

You can know the true meaning of Easter in your life today by taking these steps:

1. Recognize that without Christ you are separated from God. In honest repentance admit your need to be saved: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

2. Realize that God loves you, and believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Receive the risen Christ into your life by faith, and trust Him as your Savior: "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12).

The Meaning of Passover

"On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the LORD'S Passover" (Leviticus 23:5).

"Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. . . . And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD'S Passover " (Exodus 12:5-6,11).

The Old Testament Passover is a memorial to God passing over the houses of the children of Israel when He killed the firstborn of man and beast in Egypt, during the night of the fourteenth.

You mean Easter isn't about chocolate bunnies and hiding eggs?

Who would've thought?

Bravo to you as well.

P.S. I'm going to add your site to my blogroll.

Excellent post! Your blog is always very informative. I am always stunned when fellow Christians don't understand how Passover is related to holy Thursday and the Last Supper, etc. Last Saturday I attended a seder supper at my sisters church sponsored by the CCD program. That's where you have to start...kids.

Like wise! :)

See I didn't forget you!

Happy Easter to you, CR and thanks for the biblical lessons on events.

How about doing one on the year of Jubilee and the Jubilee laws sometime? It's the kind of thing I was never taught in church growing up and is surprisingly frequently spoken of or alluded to in the Bible.

Happy belated holidays!..long time no see!
