W Don't Lead By Polls

I don't like polls, even if I agree with them. In this era of instant news, instant analysis, blogging-buffonery (like mine), I hate polls even more. Sure, it's the stuff that makes news, especially for the left since any dip in polls these days makes for Nostradamus scrap that fills news channel timeslots and paper headlines.

That said, the recent polls of American’s like/dislike of W comes into play. Again, I don't care. Here's why? First, polls don't matter unless you're Bill Clinton or the MSM. Second, it's not November. There is time to fix the issues plaguing this administration if only someone would step up and be ahead of the main issues of the day like Iraq and the latest noise about our port sale. Lastly, the only relevant polling numbers that this admin. needs to watch out for are the numbers related to House and Senate Republicans. Those numbers are pretty bad. And the numbers for Cheney are inconsequential - he just shot someone - what did you expect his numbers were going to be?

But unlike the mid-year election in the ninety's when the House was won by Republicans for the first time in sixty-years, there are very few seats up for grabs this go around. And that is about the only real news that those on the right should take from this latest plethora of polling nincompoopery.

Still, W don't lead by polls! Thank God!

Hail Rex - King of Carnival

Happy Mardi Gras!

Obviously this year's Mardi Gras is special. Every Mardi Gras is. But not for the reasons the MSM continues to pound on or the stuff that makes the Girls Gone Wild videos.

The MSM from what I have seen has missed the point again. Mardi Gras is not about getting drunk on Bourbon Street and lifting your shirt for plastic beads. This year's Mardi Gras is not about the have and the have nots. Yes, there are many have nots in New Orleans and the entire Gulf South who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. But, life goes on. And there is no better way to celebrate that sentiment with the meaning of the entire Carnival season and the culmination of Fat Tuesday.

In French, Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" and is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday as a last "fling" prior to the 40 days of Lent which precede Easter. Although Lent is never mentioned in the Bible, it has been a tradition in the Christian world since the mid 4th century. It seems to parallel the 40 days of fasting in the wilderness that Jesus experienced following his baptism. Historically, Lenten fasting became mandatory, especially abstinence from eating meat. While recommended by St. Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria in 330 AD, by the Middle Ages Lent was enforced trustworthiness, especially the forbidding of meat during the final weeks before Easter. The word "carnival" comes from an old Italian word that means to "go without meat" or "removal of meat." In England, the Brits call this "Shrove Tuesday" and is celebrated by eating of rich food, that won't be used during Lent. As the Protestant Reformation spread throughout Europe, Lent became regarded more as a Roman Catholic institution, and was increasingly ignored by Protestants as a traditional observance. This tendency did not reverse, especially in the US, until the 1980s. Today, more Protestant churches participate in Lent with devotions and Scripture readings, as well as special Ash Wednesday services.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is the single most multi-cultural event in the US. Everyone in New Orleans celebrates it -Christians and non-Christians, Creoles, African Americans, Hispanic, French, Italians, Polish, and every other ethnicity that makes up New Orleans.

So Lezze Les Bon Temps Roule - All Hail Rex - King of Mardi Gras

The Marine and the Insurgent

A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Faluijiah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist, badly injured and unconscious.

On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.

The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.

"I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein is a miserable, lowlife scumbag, and he yelled back that Senator Ted Kennedy is a good-for-nothing, fat, left wing liberal drunk.

So I said that Osama Bin Ladin dresses and acts like a frigid, mean spirited lesbian!"

He retaliated by yelling, "Oh yeah? Well, so does Mrs. Clinton!"

"And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us"

Guard The Border Blogburst - Monday Feb 27

As a parent with two kids in Texas schools, I have a pet peeve. I really, really resent that their education is hampered by kids who can’t speak English. I’ve seen classes that move mind-bogglingly slow as teachers have to work one-on-one with children who shouldn’t be there in the first place. It’s enough to make me grind my teeth in frustration!

I am a big proponent of the immersion method of learning a language. It is my firm belief that once in America, immigrants should learn our language, and the best way is by complete and total immersion. When we lived in Mexico, we placed my son into a public school in the local village so that he could learn the language more rapidly. I continued to teach him at home what he needed to know to keep his education above American standards, and his classroom experience was for language purposes only. We asked for no special considerations, we just did what was necessary. It was not easy, but it worked.

That is only one of the reasons it is so offensive to see our tax dollars paying for immigrants, many of them here illegally, to receive special dispensations because they can’t (or won’t) learn our language! But why should they learn, when almost everything is bi-lingual anyways?

Recently in Arizona, an activist judge has ruled that it’s not enough that American citizens pay for a free education for the children of illegal aliens, and it’s not enough that the classes are dumbed-down for non-English speakers, but now the taxpayers must pay exorbitant funds to
provide special classes for children who don’t speak English!

One of the most outrageous examples of out-of-control judges is the case called Flores v. Arizona, now pending in federal court in Tucson. Originally filed in 1992, plaintiff lawyers claim to represent an estimated 160,000 children of illegal immigrants attending Arizona public schools.

The case seeks to force Arizona taxpayers to pay for bringing these children, euphemistically called English Language Learners, up to grade level. The lawyers are trying to accomplish this by turning a state legislative issue into a federal judicial command.

The background for attempting to accord special “rights” to non-American, non-English speaking residents was predicated on a case in Alabama where liberals tried to add the word “language” to the Civil Rights Act, thereby making it illegal to discriminate on the basis of language. While the case was originally successful in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, it was reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Based upon that, Arizona Judge Alfredo C. Marquez, appointed by Jimmy Carter, ruled against the Arizona taxpayers, but had enough restraint to recognize that he could not substitute the court's "educational values and theories for the educational and political decisions reserved to state or local school authorities." Nevertheless, he tasked the legislature with performing a cost study.

Over the next few years, the Arizona legislature passed three bills for this special funding. However, none of them were as large as Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, a Democrat, wanted and so she vetoed all three. Governor Napolitano wanted the Arizona Legislature to appropriate nearly $1,200 per immigrant child, totaling $192 million, without accountability for how it was to be spent. Obviously, the governor, with the judge’s ruling on her side, could sit and wait until the legislature saw things her way.

Unfortunately, the next judge in succession of Marquez, upped the ante. Appointed by Bill Clinton, Judge Ramer C. Collins, decided to punitively fine the Arizona State Legislature for not funding special accommodations for non-English speaking students.

In December 2005, Collins imposed fines of $500,000 a day, escalating to $2 million a day, for every day that the legislature fails to authorize funding acceptable to the governor.
[…]
Since Jan. 25, millions of dollars in court-ordered fines have been accumulating. If this continues to the end of the legislative session, the fines will total more than $77 million.

Who knew that an activist judge could legislate taxes and state funding?

If there is any issue that should be clearly and exclusively a function of the legislature elected by the people it is the matter of raising taxes and spending the people's money. Unfortunately, there are many supremacist judges who think they (in this case, a judge and a governor) can order the legislature to raise taxes and tell them how to spend taxpayer money.

While many Americans in other states think that these problems are confined to the four states with Hispanic majorities (TX, CA, AZ, and NM) - think again. Small towns across America are finding their educational systems utterly compromised by an influx of illegal workers and their families: Melrose, MN; Delavan, WI; Herndon, VA; Wassau, WI; Des Moines, IA; Raleigh, NC; Fort Myers, FL; Sioux Falls, SD; Grand Rapids, MI and North Platte, NE. Still think it’s not your problem?!

As one small town resident has said, “I, along with millions of other American citizens, am sick and tried of the politicians and others treating illegal aliens like honored guests! They are not honored, and they are not guests.”

American Daughter

Sheehan to protest at U.S. posts in Germany in March

By Steve Mraz, Stars and StripesEuropean edition, Thursday, February 23, 2006

RAMSTEIN, Germany - Cindy Sheehan, mother of a soldier killed in Iraq and the woman who protested the war last summer outside President Bush's Texas ranch, is scheduled to bring her anti-war message to U.S. military installations in Germany next month. "We've already heard that Cindy Sheehan is like Hanoi Jane [Fonda] coming here," said Elsa Rassbach, an event organizer with
American Voices Abroad, which is supporting Sheehan's trip. But, she said, "We're here to just democratically talk about U.S. policy."

"Some press and some opponents say that Cindy is coming as their enemy,"Rassbach said. "Our message is 'support our soldiers, bring them home, take care of them.'" "That's what we're about."

Oh really? In the immortal words of Col. Sherman Potter, 'Horse Hockey.' What you're about, Comrade Sheehan, is anti-American, bolshevist propaganda which constitutes treason as defined in Article III, Section III Clause 1 of the Constitution: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Screw due process. I know she has not spoken yet. But if she puts on the same show for the German Greenies she has entertained us with in the US, then treason is the order of the day since her act will be performed on foregin soil. Now in order for this to fit the letter and intent of the treason clause, there will have to be at least two witnesses. If she stands in front of Ramstein AFB, then anyone from the 86th Airlift Wing, 435th Air Base Wing, and the 38th Combat Support Wing or any of our allies, namely Canadian, German, British, French, Belgian, Polish, Czech, Norwegian, Danish, and Dutch forces who are there can act as witnesses.

Duane 'Dog' Chapman - The Bounty Hunter

I am a big fan of the 'Dog.' Ever since he nailed the heir to all that Max Factor money in Mexico, I have watched his show on A&E any chance I get.

Funny, John Gibson at Fox has a story about the Dog when he did an interview with correspondent, Jane Skinner. Here is the link.

What's amazing about the Dog is that he nails these guys and girls with no weapons. What I find interesting about the Dog is that he gets into the psyche of the felons he goes after and uses their MOs to 'hook and book' them.

The Dog states, "I've captured over 7,000 fugitives and maybe it's because I know how they think. I mean, if I wouldn't have been doing what I'm doing, there's 7,000 people who would have gotten away and how many victims would they leave behind?" And if you've seen his show, there are great messages about faith and family mixed into what he does as a profession.

If you have not seen this show, give it a look. As Jane Skinner adroitly stated, "...some have called it a cross between "COPS" and "The Osbournes" and a little bit of "WWF" thrown in"

The Dog is much more entertaining than COPS and the WWF. Watch it, Bra!

Company Policy

Of all the stuff out there on the US Port deal with a UAE firm, this piece crystallizes why this deal should not go through. It comes from NRO contributing editor, Frank Gaffeny.

If the following response to a posting on the WarFooting.com blog last Thursday by a self-described, but anonymous, former employee of the UAE company is any guide, that won't be pretty:

The US and the West in general are making a serious mistake if they hand over control of 21 ports to an Arab company, owned by an Arab government.

As a former employee of the DP World I can offer a unique insight into the goings on of this company, and I'm afraid if you scrape beneath the surface, it's not all its cracked up to be.

Did you know that several times a year, staff receive a company memo informing them that, for that particular month, one day's salary will be deducted and given to a Palestine "charity"!!! Staff are allowed to refuse by informing Human Resources Department, but no one ever did - knowing that this would lead to being over-looked for promotions and/or not having your contract renewed. I recall one poor Indian dock-side labourer on [a] $500-a-month [salary] complaining that he couldn't afford to make the payment as he had his wife and three children back in India to feed. He promptly was fired!

They have a reputation and a track record of not honouring staff contracts for expatriates, and I know of several employees who didn't receive their end contract bonuses or whose personal effects were not repatriated back to their home country. I mean, what can you do when the company is owned by the government of UAE and Shari'a law applies?

If this administration does not care to secure our borders, then for God's sake at least secure our ports.

University of Washington Craps On Hero

Hat Tip - Jarhead's Firing Range

The University of Washington student senate voted against a proposed memorial to alumnus and WWII hero Marine LtCol "Pappy" Boyington. See the full article here.

The fact that he was a Marine, and white, was just too much for them. LtCol Boyington spent a number of months being tortured in a Japanese POW camp, shot down a record number of enemy planes, and was eventually awarded the Medal Of Honor and the Navy Cross.

Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government's meeting last week, said she "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."

Lebanon votes against the United States 80% of the time.
India votes against the United States 81% of the time.
Syria votes against the United States 84% of the time.

US Foreign Aid to those that hate us:

Egypt, for example, after voting 79% of the time against the United States, still receives $2 billion annually in US Foreign Aid.

Jordan votes 71% against the United States and receives $192,814,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States and receives $6,721,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Perhaps it is time to get out of the UN and give the tax savings back to the American workers who are having to skimp and sacrifice to pay the taxes.

Pass this along. Everyone needs to know. Might even mention it to your congressman, who knows it anyway what a disgrace...

Frank Burns (M*A*S*H) was right when he was teaching English to the local Koreans, 'Get us out of the UN!' You tell 'em, Ferret Face!

Death to Sarbanes Oxley

For those unfamiliar with what this is, Sarbanes Oxley is the sweeping and derisive legislation Congress and the SEC put out in the wake of the Enron implusion several years ago. Every business in America is affected by this corporate 'Versailles Treaty' and it must be repealed immediately. John Tamny at NRO puts out a great piece about this. Read.

Some of the more disturbing facts from this piece are:

"...a recent Wall Street Journal editorial noted that of 80 international companies that went public since 2001 on the London Stock Exchange, “90% decided Sarbanes-Oxley made London more attractive” relative to U.S. exchanges."

and...

"More damningly for Sarbanes-Oxley advocates, as recently as 2000 nine out of every ten dollars raised by foreign companies through new stock offerings was done in New York. Today, nine out of every ten dollars raised is in London or Luxembourg."

...finally

"...companies will on an individual basis abide by internally set controls based on a reasoned assessment of capital markets and what’s required to attract investment. Laws such as Sarbanes-Oxley are superfluous, and for their impact on economic activity, anti-growth."

Sarbanes Oxley is to business regulation what the ADA is to the advancement of handicapped people in the workplace.

Hurling Over Curling!

How many of you have been watching the Olympics? It has been excruciatingly difficult on so many levels. NBC has gotten better since the last Olympic ‘Love-In’ with all the special interest stories of athletes with dyslexic parents who raised twenty kids on a farm, etc. But there are still too many stories like that and not enough sports.

Next, there are the endless commercials. OMG – The Commercials. Watching the downhill Super G yesterday was painful. After every two skiers, commercials and more commercials. Commercials for the plug of the Olympics brought to you by…another commercial. Here’s an idea: how about no self promotion broadcast commercials and let us watch another athlete.

Curling! Where to start. First, this is such a Canadian event (it ain’t a sport if you can’t hit anyone or travel faster than you can run!) Curling is said to be a ‘thinker’s game full of strategy and precision.’ Well, so is estate planning but does it need to be an Olympic event? The American version is called Shuffle Board and it’s played all over my state of FL with people who are certainly more entertaining than the gits on NBC. Why this event is so disturbing for me is that it is so Canadian: boring, unimaginative, and lllloooonnnnggggg…my God it takes forever. And brother has NBC shown this event to its Novocain-dulling conclusion! I’d rather have my gums scrapped!

As for the rest of the Olympics, I can only say that cable and regular broadcast TV has ruined it for everyone. When I was little, the Olympics were 24/7. If you wanted to watch an event, you had to set your clock to 3AM so you could see it live. Now, all we get is the edited, fit for prime time packaging and it’s horrible. You get no feel for the event since everything is edited. Even with a six hour time difference, at least an event can be shown in its entirety so there is continuity to what you are viewing. So you really can’t get into the event since it’s so edited and compromised by all the bloody commercials.

On to the athletes...Did you hear or read about the Austrian Team being investigated for drugs and doping its own team members right at the Olympic Village? In fact, on the sports radio show this AM, the Austrian Team Manager was being chased by the Italian Police to escape capture and he wrecked his car into the compound (He got a 9.5 for style from all judges and a 6.8 for technical difficulty!).

And lastly...the hype. All of the darling athletes that NBC hyped are gone: Miller, Apollo and Kwan - out. There is no one left for NBC to drool all over. And even with all of the manufactured human interst stuff, NBC was not able to create an Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards type story. It tried to do that with a piece about Bill Johnson after the ski injury which left him brain damaged.

Hey NBC - you're getting your ratings butt kicked by American Idol. You've got two years to get it right before Beijing!

MINUTEMAN CIVIL DEFENSE CORPS
ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE ‘SECURE OUR BORDERS’ OPERATION FOR APRIL 2006

(PHOENIX, AZ) February 16, 2006 – Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”), today announced plans for the group’s nationwide “Secure Our Borders” campaign in April 2006. Simcox also announced a new operational structure for the original Minuteman Border Project to meet the growing needs of the continued expansion of Minuteman border security operations.

Thousands of MCDC volunteers, augmented by the new national support team, will hold border watch patrols in northern and southern states along an estimated 800 miles of international borders during the month of April. The Minutemen will observe and report suspected illegal border crossings to the proper authorities. As always, they will maintain a “no contact” policy with the exception of providing emergency water to those illegal aliens found in distress in the wilderness.

Last year, MCDC revolutionized the national debate about border security and illegal immigration by focusing the nation’s attention on the dangers of America’s wide-open borders in a post 9/11 world. The Minutemen have demonstrated that the borders can be secured with sufficient political will and dedication.

Since the MCDC 23-mile border watch in April, 2005, interest in joining and supporting the Minutemen has exploded nationwide. MCDC chapters have been formed in southern and northern border states, as well as interior states. To date, 6,500 men and women have passed the required background check and interviews to qualify to become official Minuteman Border Project volunteers – with more waiting in the queue for approval. Over 120,000 people have become friends of the Minutemen through their support and volunteer work.

Given the success of the Minuteman Border Project efforts, and two successful month long 24/7 operations conducted in April and October of 2005, a new national volunteer operational structure has been launched to support the Minutemen. The new structure is necessary to respond to these thousands of volunteers and supporters asking what they can do to help.

MCDC has asked for and accepted the help of experienced border volunteers who have been on the front lines, some for as long as four years. With this expansion we will be ready for the thousands of volunteers who will participate in the “Secure Our Borders” operation in April 2006. This expansion further solidifies MCDC’s ability to continue the largest neighborhood watch effort in American history. The Minutemen will continue their civil defense operations assisting authorities in securing the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada until properly relieved.

Contact MCDC at (520)829-3112 or info@minutemanhq.com For more information about MCDC: www.minutemanhq.com

Only One Word For Oil Profits: Crude!

Johnny Williams at NRO has a piece every supply-side, Reaganomic, Big Business supporter needs to read. Here are a few of the stats he got from the Securities and Exchange Commission:

New filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) show that the largest oil and gas companies in America (Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and ExxonMobil) are set to pay or remit over $158 billion in worldwide taxes for 2005.

...this is the one that knocked me out of the chair:

This tax burden on American “big oil” nearly equals the total economic output of Iran and exceeds total GDP in 150 of the 184 countries ranked by the World Bank.

...it gets better:

In 2005 alone, these companies set aside more than $44 billion to pay corporate income taxes, nearly a 50 percent increase from 2004. The average effective tax rate for the major integrated oil and gas industry is estimated to equal 38.3 percent, while the rate for the market as a whole is estimated to equal 32.3 percent.

...finally:

Some pundits and politicians still consider “profit” a dirty word. However, if politicians pass legislation to punish the oil companies for those profits, no one should kid themselves about who would ultimately pay the price: we all would.

In other words; how crude!

Dick Cheney - Clumsy Hunter or Homicidal Maniac?

(lifted from Kenders' Musings)

As the world knows by now, the Vice President of The United States of America, Dick Cheney, "accidentally" shot a hunting companion on during a "quail shoot". However, questions have arisen since the shooting that need to be answered before the media should let this matter drop as the "accident" it is purported to be. Questions like:

Was Dick Cheney really trying to kill a senior citizen in hopes of reducing the load on the Social Security system, a system that has been beleagured under President Bush?

Think about it. As soon as Bush got in office Social Security was suddenly "in trouble" and needed to be "bailed out", a claim that the Democrats refute, in both words and action. The Democrats, (may blessings from the diety of their choice upon the body part of their liking be bestowed upon them), have been telling us all along that Bush is a crook and the entire administration is corrupt, so it should surprise nobody that Cheney would attempt to take things in his own hands and try to fix the nagging Social Security "problem" by offing seniors one by one in "hunting accidents". Or this bothersome thought that wandered through the conspirital mind of this writer after hearing about this story;

Is shooting a lawyer really a crime? Or just a good start?(apologies to my lawyer friends)[not really....youknew what you were getting into]

Luckily for the man that was shot the V.P's medical team was standing by with Cheney's personal ambulance just mere moments away. The V.P's personal ambulance, codenamed "Emergency Two" or "The Hearse" to those on the inside, whisked Dick's vict...I mean took the poor man to the hospital right away. Inside sources say that Cheney's information, that the man he shot had a heart that was a match for Cheney's, was wrong, and the man was allowed to "survive" once that was discovered.

Will the Vice President be brought up on charges? Hell no!!!! In this administration, buddy, you get away with attempted murder. Just don't try to protect the country by doing things without informing your enemies of your actions, because THAT will land you in a WORLD of hurt with Reid, Pelosi, and the ACLU. You can try to kill people in the woods, especially rich, white lawyers, but don't you listen to Achmed talking to his cohorts or you, sir, shall be branded a lying-criminal-facsist-freedom-stealing-oil-company shill. In a related story, the ACLU is planning to file a lawsuit to overturn the oft ignored second amendment, stating that it was never meant to give decrepit old men that ability to shoot each other in the woods, and today it is a "hunting buddy" and tomorrow Cheney will be doing drive-by's on the Kennedy Compound.

Some that have jumped to the Vice Presidents defense have characterized the occurance not as attempted murder, but rather an abortion in the 224th trimester.Yet another valid question that occurs to me is this one;

Why has nobody on the left called for an investigation into this shooting?

I think it is because the person that was shot was a rich, white lawyer. If the shooting victim had been a poor, black kid from the inner city the left would be screaming bloody murder by now. Come to think of it, why doesn't Cheney take some poor black kid from the inner city hunting with him sometime? Of course, now who would want to go with him? Can we talk Reid or Pelosi, or maybe even Hillary into going? Damn it all to hell....leftist pacifist twits only hunt for votes, don't they? My dad, who lives in Arkansas, (yes, I am a proud Redneck to the damned bone) mentioned that in AR., when they shoot something, they track it down and put it out of it's misery, then wondered if Cheney had a tag for Lawyers. If he didn't he may be in for a big fine.

But really what bothers me is the one question that nobody else is asking, and that question is;

Where was Dan Quayle?

Seriously, Cheney goes on a "quail hunt" and nobody has seen "Dan Quayle" since then?

Update: Imus In The Morning said that if VP Cheney had not had received six deferments, he would have been a better shot!

Funny!

Contrary to popular belief, most illegals coming to the USA already had jobs in the country that they left. Also, they are seeking much higher paying jobs than some might believe. Their days of trying to just pick fruit are over!

Here are some details, although it is best to read this entire article:
Study: Most illegal immigrants had jobs

The research, believed to represent the largest-ever study of undocumented migrants, contends that the vast majority of illegal immigrants from Mexico were gainfully employed before they migrated to the United States, and failure to find work in their native Mexico did not seem to be the primary reason for their departure, said Rakesh Kochhar, associate director for research at the center and author of the report.

In fact, the majority of new migrants will look for work with higher wages in industries such as construction, hotels or sales, said Roberto Suro, director of the Pew Hispanic Center.

Only 5 percent of the 4,836 migrants surveyed were unemployed in Mexico before moving to the United States - a significantly lower number than in past studies and theories about migrants, Suro said.

Ironically, Kochhar added, immigration status (in the United States) has little to do with finding employment. Migrants without identification had the same chance of landing a job as those with valid U.S. IDs.

So much for all that talk about illegals needing to find work. They already had work where they came from. They just come to the USA for a higher wage. And so much for all that talk about illegals only filling jobs "that Americans will not do". As I've previously explained, Americans did those jobs and can do them again. And never mind "those jobs", now the illegals are going for YOUR JOB. They want to move up the pay scale. The illegals coming in now are better educated than prior generations and so they are seeking higher paying jobs that require a higher skill set.

The
actual report is available here.

The complete report mentions:
Once they arrive and pass through a relatively brief period of transition and adjustment, migrants have little trouble finding work. Family and social networks play a significant role in this; large shares of migrants report talking to people they know in the U.S. about job opportunities and living with relatives after arrival. They easily make transitions into new jobs, even though most find themselves working in industries that are new to them.

There is a steady and strong demand for migrant workers from Mexico in agriculture, construction, manufacturing and hospitality. These four industries employ about two-thirds of the survey respondents, irrespective of their background in Mexico or their year of arrival.

Migrants from Mexico are responsive to regional variations in demand for their services. Construction is the dominant industry for employing migrants in Atlanta, Dallas and Raleigh; hospitality is the major employer in New York City; manufacturing in Chicago; and agriculture in Fresno.

The percentage of survey respondents employed in agriculture in the U.S. has dropped from 17% of those in country more than 15 years to 9% of recent arrivals. At the same time, the percentage employed in construction and hospitality has increased from 23% to 42%.

The time is now to close our borders to illegal immigration.

USMC Letter To Family

submitted by email:

FROM A FARM KID,NOW AT SAN DIEGO MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT
___________________________________________________________________________
Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all of the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m., but am getting so I like to sleep late.

Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc, but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon when you get fed again.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches", which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The country is nice but awful flat.

The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Capt. is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes!

Then we have what they call hand-to hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130 pounds, and he's 6'8" and weighs near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,

Gail

Amen! I think the dems are just digging deeper and deeper by harping on the 'wiretaps' when everyone is watching these riots. I think most people are irritated that they put their own political agendas above the well-being of the country.

This response below is the one that everyone should read and remember!

I heard a Mullah or Iman or whatever interviewed a while ago on CNN (of all things!). Even the CNN reporter was getting irritated with him. When asked why the Muslim leaders were more upset over these cartoons than suicide bombers, beheadings, rioting, fire-setting, murders, etc., he just evaded the question. Even the CNN reporter confronted him about not answering the questions. But the most intersting thing was that when the reporter asked him what he felt needed to happen so that Muslims and the west could live together, he replied that we needed to accept their religion.Regardless of how the reporter asked the question, he replied that submitting to Islam was the only way we can live in peace.I've heard other Muslim leaders say the same thing. We need to hear that - that's what they are saying and what they believe. They want us to submit to them. That ain't gonna happen.

It is SO not going to happen. They don't understand who they are dealing with, do they? They think that what issues forth from The Department of State is representative of where the American people stand. Wrongo.

Marine Bumper Stickers

You all know of my fondness for bumper stickers (See Hey Kerry! post further down). But I thought you all might get a kick out of these Marine bumper sticker ideas from Strategy Page:

- Save water, shower with a Marine!
- Heaven won't take us and Hell's afraid we'll take over.
- USMC: When it absolutely, positively must be destroyed overnight.
- When in doubt, empty the magazine. (#2 favorite)
- To err is human, to forgive is divine, however neither is Marine Corps policy.
- Happiness is a belt-fed weapon.
- There are two types of people: Marines, and those that wish they were.
- Martyrs or Marines, who do you think will get the virgins? (#3 favorite)
- All men are created equal, then some become Marines.

- USMC: It's not an attitude problem, we are that good.
- U.S. Marines: Travel agents to Allah.
- First Iraq, then France.
- We're Marines, we took Iwo Jima, Baghdad ain't shit." (Gen. Kelly)

- It's God's job to forgive Bin Laden, it's our job to arrange the meeting.
- Sergeants think their only flaw is their excessive modesty.

- Except for ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism, and Communism, war has never solved anything." (The winner!)

Vote for your favorite!

Islam Will Dominate!

From Jihad Watch:

"Islam will dominate," eh? Live, from New York, it's Islamic jihad: the picture above comes from the
United American Committee, some members of which encountered these charmers at the site of the 9/11 jihad terror attack in New York City during the UAC Rally Against Islamo-Fascism on February 1. Note the black flag of Islam, the battle-flag of jihad, flying over the White House on the placard at left.
I trust the appropriate authorities have taken note.

My Two cents: This is the reason why the Bush Admin is spying on them!

I Miss Bill Clinton

(submitted by email)

This sounds a lot like Dave Chappelle...It doesn't matter what party you belong to - this is hilarious. From a show on Canadian TV. There was a black comedian who said he misses Bill Clinton.

"Yep, that's right - I miss Bill Clinton! He was the closest thing we ever got to having a black man as President. Why?
Number 1 - He played the sax.
Number 2 - He smoked weed.
Number 3 - He had his way with ugly white women.
Number 4 - Even now? Look at him... his wife works, and he don't! And, he gets a check from the government every month.
Number 5 - Manufacturers announced today that they will be stocking America's shelves this week with "Clinton Soup," in honor of one of the nations' most distinguished men. It consists primarily of a weenie in hot water.
Number 6 -Chrysler Corporation is adding a new car to its line to honor Bill Clinton. The Dodge Drafter. It will be built in Canada.
Number 7 - When asked what he thought about foreign affairs, Clinton replied, "I don't know, I never had one."
Number 8 - The Clinton revised judicial oath: "I solemnly swear to tell the truth as I know it, the whole truth as I believe it to be, and nothing but what I think you need to know."
Number 9 - Clinton will be recorded in history as the only President to do Hanky Panky between Bushes."

Why Isn't It Ever The Muslims Fault?

From Sensible Mom:
From Rueters:

"For years, Scandinavian countries have been among the most generous with aid to the Muslim world, but that generosity has stood for little in the scandal over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
In the past week, Scandinavian embassies have been set ablaze in Syria and Lebanon and bans have been put on Danish exports, creating a row that threatens to unravel the substantial goodwill Scandinavia had in the Middle East.
Despite the vast contributions Nordic countries have made, analysts suspect Denmark's heavy-handed approach to immigrants may be one reason behind the Muslim backlash. And they worry that it could take a long time for reputations to recover."
As if the Muslims in the Middle East know anything about the supposed heavy-handedness in Denmark.
So the fault of the rampaging is Denmark's heavy-handed approach to its immigrants. That's right, the Muslims can't be blamed for blowing the situation way out of proportion.

Does the writer of the article remember Theo Van Gogh? It wasn't the Dutch who killed him. Or is Theo Van Gogh to blame because he dared to question their culture? Do the media think he was heavy-handed, too? When will the media rightfully blame the Muslims for their behavior?
I wonder if the writer is part of the "why do they hate us crowd" we heard after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Oops, that's right, to Reuters they weren't terrorists.
Europe was foolish to think that money would buy them respect and protection.

It reminds me of when a child has a temper tantrum because they don't get their way. They scream and complain that the world is unfair (they even wish their parents would die as punishment for being mean). But as a parent you make them go to their room until they stop screaming and then, when they calm down, remind them they were wrong and why. You certainly don't buy them presents after a temper tantrum hoping it will stop them from doing it again or think that buying them loads of presents when their infants will innoculate you from tantrums when they're two.

Update: Betsy Newmark links (here and here) to a piece by Richard Baehr at The American Thinker noting evidence that this may be a manufactured intifada. That along with Gateway Pundit's finding that some of the cartoons being circulated by a militant group weren't published and just happen to be surprise, surprise far more offensive than the one's published in Denmark.
From Baehr: "The new Hamas government of the Palestinian territories needs to continue on life support via cash infusions from the European Union and other donor nations, including the United States. Fear and chastening have usually worked to unlock resources and sympathyin the past, so why not now?"

Meanwhile Iran is facing potentially serious consequences from the referral of its nuclear program to the UN Security Council, not to mention a possible military attack on said facilities. Syria and its clients in Lebanon also face ongoing pressure and consequences from the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri.

"...at a point when the Europeans seemed ready to sanction both Iran and the Palestinians, a new issue diverted their eyes with the cartoon riots- self preservation. It seems strange that all these flags were ready for this crisis to get hot, as several keen observers have noted. Who sells Danish flags in the Arab world, after all?

Betsy follows-up saying, "Richard just emailed me to note that Denmark is scheduled to take its place in rotation as head of the Security Council just as the Security Council is set to discuss Iran's nukes. Coincidence?

Things To Think About

(Submitted by email)

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January. In the fair city of the most recent Super Bowl, there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq.

When some claim that President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:

a. FDR led us into World War II.
b. Germany never attacked us; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost an average of 112,500 per year.
c. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-19! 53, 55,000 lives were lost…an average of 18,334 per year.
d John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost...an average of 5,800 per year.
f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us.He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
g. In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and, North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking. But It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

But Wait.There's more!

JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR)Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13 (Verified as true on Snopes.com) Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living. This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):"How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"

Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank."

"I ask you to go with me as I went the other day to a veteran's hospital and look those men with their mangled bodies…look them in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job.You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?"

For those who don't remember, During WWII, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA. Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran.

It's The Message Stupid!

Wow...another 2 million jobs added to the economy by 12/06. Look at the latest figures from the CBO in Larry Kudlow's article in NRO.

Larry's right: It's The Message Stupid. Why isn't The White House shouting these figures on air and hurling these massive gains to the public? This is where the White House needs a Lee Atwater. In fact, this is where we need to take a page from our friends from across the aisle. The Clintonistas were masters at media manipulation, save the fact that the media welcomed any piece of information that advanced its leftist causes. The Clinton information machine pumped out mountains of press releases about anything it did, any photo op, any airtime it could squeeze...and it worked wonders in public perception.

So why don't the Bush Admin's press folks do the same thing?

Look at it this way: We had 9/11, and the economy kept moving. We are in a billion dollar a day war, and the economy keeps moving. Our 24th largest city and the Gulf Coast were wiped of the map, and the economy keeps moving. The House of Reprehensibles spends money like drunken sailors on Bangkok shore leave, and the economy keeps moving. The resilience of our economy is amazing.

So why not get on the air and print media and say so! I just don’t get it.

February 6 2006 Guard the Border Blogburst

February 6, 2006 Guard the Borders Blogburst

Anchor babies. We all know about this: illegal immigrants, sneaking across the border just in time to rush to the hospital and give birth for free at any hospital (thanks to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1985). Right now, those babies born on our land are given automatic citizenship, which allows the illegal parents to not only stay in our country, but reap the benefits of a government-paid lifestyle: food stamps, free health care, free schools, free everything.

What's the problem, besides the fact that none of them should be here to begin with? The Constitution doesn't even give them this right - unlike what open border lobbyists will have you believe. The entire "anchor baby" problem is due to a complete and utter bastardization of the American Constitution. The phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is in that amendment. It means those who subscribe to the laws of the land; those who come under American jurisdiction; those who choose to be American.

Jack Ward
has a phenomenal article on anchor babies, and explains the misinterpretation:

To understand the correct interpretation of the 14th Amendment we need to understand what the co-author of the amendment wrote about the Amendment. In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard wrote, "This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors, or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons." Senator Howard wrote the addition phrase specifically because he wanted to make it clear that the simple accident of birth in the US is not sufficient to justify citizenship.

Does the government already know this? Yes.

The US Supreme Court recognized this when they ruled in 1873 that the phrase (and subject to the jurisdiction thereof) excluded "children of ministers, consuls, and citizens of foreign states born within the United States." Since the court recognized that the children of foreign citizens and diplomats should not be granted US citizenship, why should anyone think that the children of those that enter the US illegally are subject to the jurisdiction of the US government? The simple answer is no thinking person would. The anchor baby parents are neither US citizens, subject to US jurisdiction, nor do they owe any allegiance to the US. Federal immigration laws require aliens to renounce all allegiance to any foreign government and to support the US Constitution to become citizens. The parents of anchor babies never fulfilled this obligation and were never "subject to the jurisdiction" of the US.

Both the author of the 14th Amendment and the US Supreme Court recognized that an alien mother and her baby are subject to the jurisdiction of their native country - not the US. The 14th Amendment wasn't created to provide an end run for aliens to defy US immigration laws. But politicians have subverted the Constitution and allowed citizenship to any child born in the US. This misinterpretation is not accidental - it is intentional. An error of this magnitude could not be accidental.

In Oklahoma, social workers are knowingly allowing immigrants to sign up for welfare by putting in someone else's Social Security number for them! In other words, if you live in Oklahoma, you might be ‘receiving welfare’ and not even know because some illegal is receiving benefits under your name. Isn't that nice?

The Supreme Court already has ruled on a case! There is precedent, case law already on the books for anchor babies! There is no excuse for this going on, just as there is no excuse for illegal immigration at all.
