While We're At It - Why Not Appoint Judge Judy To the Supreme Court

If Harriet Miers is qualified to be on the Supreme Court, then why not Judge Judy?

Here are Judge Judy's Quals:

Here are some excerpts from Judge Judy's book - Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining: America's Toughest Family Court Judge Speaks Out:

"By shifting the emphasis from individual responsibility to government responsibility, we have infantilized an entire population."

"During my years in family court, I have seen a dramatic deterioration in the lives of adults and children. At the same time, there has been a dramatic increase in expensive public programs. We are spending a fortune and the result is failure. The recipients of these monies are in the same or worse shape than before, and the consequences are all around us"

To further prove her qualifications, here are some of the best quotes from her award winning show:

"If you live to be a hundred you will never be as smart as me"

"Do I have stupid written over my forehead?"

"Have you ever heard of the KISS principle? Keep It Simple, Stupid?"

"This is my courtroom I can say what I want. When you become a Judge, we will talk."

"Do you feel as if you're getting whipped? (laughs) You sure are!"

"You spent seventy-two dollars getting your hair done? You wasted your money!"

"Two people can't talk at the same time. When my mouth is moving, it means that you need to be quiet."

"Do you know when a gift becomes a loan? When the relationship is over. Have you ever heard that, sir? Well, neither have I. I just made it up. I'm going to put it on coffee mugs."

"Sir, the table didn't have three beers and get up and move!!!"

"You are not a good witness. Because a good witness answers a Judge's question directly, and my question to you was a very simple one. A SIX YEAR OLD COULD ANSWER IT!!!"

"My grandmother always told me; beauty fades, but dumb is forever!"

"gotta job? well get one!"

"Of course I’m right, I’m always right.” "I got an A for Torts in Law School.” "BALONEY SIR!"

"I'm like a truth machine."

"I'm the boss, Applesauce."

"l have 3 sons so l know you are no gift! You're not even good looking!!"

"That's going to be the most expensive curse word you ever said!"

"Did you just curse at him? Get out"

"Ridiculous --- NEXT!"

"I think you ought to be quiet. You know, they don't need anybodys tirring up the pot. You're a pot-stirrer."

"Sir don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining."

"Do I look like I need help from you?"

"Did you forget you were coming to coming to court today?"

"I don't care what you think! I'M the one who has to make a determinationwhat is fair."

If these are not the credentials required to be on the Supreme Court, I don't know what is. Compared to Harriett Miers, Judge Judy is the most qualified to take the next seat.

Do the right thing Congress - Appoint Judge Judy

Imagine the ratings you'll get!

CRM, good point. Bush is laying down here. I can feel it. I can smell it. I think we're going to be in for a big surprise come her instillation. She's gonna pull the same shit that O'Connor pulled to Reagan.

I'm still worried about Roberts. I pray that he is a constitutionalist. I pray that he is an ideologue. We're going to find out soon enough. If it's as bad as some suggest, I might prefer some teeth-nashing as opposed to the next 20 years..
BTW, I hope you don't mind that I quoted you today on my blog.
Nice one! I'm with you!
If Judy got in, Ruth would take an early retirement...NEXT...
This is frightening, but this pick makes as much sense as the current one. Yikes!
Very Nice CRM!!!
In Only Angels Have Wings, Cary Grant has lines like "Hello, Judy. Come on, Judy. Now, Judy." But he never said "Judy, Judy, Judy." Well W'ya didn't either and maybe he should have. Judge Judith Sheindlin, Supreme Court Justice.. it has a nice ring to it.. She once said that male delinquents would find her court the "second worst experience of their lives, circumcision being the worst". Now that's laying it out there.. Why New York mayor Ed Koch (ironically now presiding over his own television court) elevated her to the bench as a judge in the Family Court and later appointed the Supervising Judge in Manhattan. She has the credentials, after all, she oversees the most profoundly just court in America. She makes decisions in the time it take for a couple of commercial breaks. In her court, retribution is swift and certain - break the rules and expect to be punished.. now that's my kind of justice.

All humor aside...the President was urged by members of the senate judiciary committee not to pick someone who has been a judge and that's what he did. While I don't totally agree with the nomination, Harriet may have some Judge Judy like qualities..I think her history of being a straight shooter speaks to that and may be a wake up call for a few stuffed shirts.. Mr President.. I'm going to trust you on this one.
Ouch. A tough post, but I have to say that the president deserves it. I am as disappointed as most other conservatives. I wanted a strict constitutionalist with experience and immpecable credentials and we didn't get that. We had a chance to change the court and bush may have blown it.

Of course, as notaclue indicates, Miers may well turn out to be a conservative. But even best case, there's no indication she's an intellectual heavyweight in the tradition of Scalia. BTY, this is not an insult, just an observation.
I have to admit that I was surprised that Bush nominated a Pro Gay rights, Gore supporter. Then I realized she was a crony from Texas who is almost totally unqualified and it all made sense.
I nominate Judge Marilyn Milian of The People's Court !
(She's cuter).

I think the point of Bush's nomination was he wanted someone he knew he could trust to be a strict conservative constructionist. He knows her well, and believes this to be true about her, so he picked her. Rest assured she will be confirmed. The Democrats seem to be thinking it will definitely give the Republicans a black eye, and since she appears to be a stealth candidate they are hoping she'll pull a Suitor.

(See, I have an easier web adress now;)
CRM, I have to disagree, although I really like Judge Judy! lol.

You guys and gals need to slow down and take a breath! What do you know about her? Are you too haughty that if she doesn't pass YOUR litmus test, she shouldn't be on the bench?

Let's look at that reasoning. We want someone on the bench that will rule according to the Constitution and it's Amendments. If we do not receive this, what are we truly looking for? An activist? THAT IS WHAT WE HATE! Get a grip!

Now, I am disappointed as well. I wanted Justice Janice Rogers Brown. Ask me why? Do I know her personally? No. Have I read her briefs? No. Do I know anything about her? Well, not really. So why am I disappointed? Because a lot of conservatives wanted her to be on the bench.

I had to do some soul searching and be honest with myself. Let's watch the hearings with an open and keen mind. Okay?

Well, that's my 2 cents. Have a great day everyone!
Out of 100 qualified jurists and scholars of the law for this seat, where would her name have appear in that list? Vegas odds tell me she would not have made it. And I have to think that if I was on the President's short list, I would have ask myself what else do I have to do to get the the SC?

Anyway, this is parody.
the issue about Miers is that she is not a constitutional scholar and her legal credentials are dismal. While I trust the President when he says she is a conservative, we have so many conservative lawyers whose legal credentials outpace hers by miles...This is the highest court of the country, for Christ sake!
As for Judge Judy, she was the speaker at my graduation and she was great, smart and funny! And speaking of 'the first female to chair Texas Lotto Commission,' Judge Judy was the very first female judge in NY and she had to overcome a lot of 'men club' attitude from other judges and she've earned their respect for her brains and character...
Go Ahead On, Olga! Thanks again for the visit! Ya'll Come back, Now. Ya Hear!
Actually, the issue seems to be that most conservatives really do want an activist judge...just in the opposite vein from a liberal judge.

President Bush says he knows the type of person this nominee is. I remember when President Bush announced he had "looked into the soul" of the Russian president. Look at the oppressive Russian regime now. Look at how Russian democratic ideals and initiatives have been rolled back in the face of attacks in that country.

Frankly, I don't believe Mr. Bush knows what is in anyone's soul except his own. No matter what he says about Mrs. Mier, all we can ask is that, if confirmed, she weight the evidence carefully and rule on the basis of law. No matter how much you want Roe v. Wade, or any other case overturned, rule of law is the tantamount.

Good blogging.
