Sniper shot that took out an insurgent killer from three quarters of a mile

Gazing through the telescopic sight of his M24 rifle, Staff Sgt Jim Gilliland, leader of Shadow sniper team, fixed his eye on the Iraqi insurgent who had just killed an American soldier. Later that day, Staff Sgt Gilliland found out that the dead soldier was Staff Sgt Jason Benford, 30, a good friend.

"I believe it is the longest confirmed kill in Iraq with a 7.62mm rifle," said Staff Sgt Gilliland, 28, who hunted squirrels in Double Springs, Alabama from the age of five before progressing to deer - and then people.

So says the article on The Telegraph. Click on this link to read the whole article. It is as chilling as it inspiring.

Comments:
WOW! I couldn't even see a target 3/4 of a mile, no matter how good the scope.

We could use his squirrel and deer hunting skills around here.

P.S. Thanks for that reminder about the Barret Report. I do intend to get around to that too. You see how succesful the Dem noise machine is? They know we get distracted from the real dirt on them when they manufacture these phony scandals for us to respond to.

A buddy of mine graduated from Sniper School. He loved the article and responded that the Sgt that got that shot was not one in a million as he modestly stated, but the culmination of harnesed nerves, stealth, training and the hand of God (and a good spotter!).

Blow-out the Barrett Report on your site. This has better legs than the Jack Idema stuff. And since you guys get more readers each day than I do, you should generate some really good discusion and interest.

I will post these comments to your site so you will receive them without having to come back here. (I wish this template had a comment subscribe feature)

Go get 'em with the Barrett Report

Cross posting this too:

You're making me hungry now Patd. I ate at the Red Hot and Blue near DC a few times. The franchise in Savannah which has now closed wasn't as good.

Looks like we are going to get a gutted Barrett Report on January 19, so now would be a good time to lay the groundwork.

Thanks for the reminder.

Skill and training beats luck every time. Thanks for the post. I also enjoyed your comments over at Mike's.

Well, Mike, even a gutted Barrett is better than no Barret. The Dem disinformation machine will crank-up and the shrill of 'leve the Clintonistas alone' will be heard all over the MSM. Ah, but Barrett is a funny animal since it started and ended with Cissy and not a consultant hack. That is the rub that the right should latch on to. Wile Abe is an outsider screwing around on the inside, Barrett starts with insiders and ends the same...big, big, difference.

Team America, F*** YEAH!

This like so many other stories need to be out in the public for all to see. We can't give our troops enough praise and coverage.
