Flight 93 Movie - All Networks/All The Time

Flight 93 hits the movie theaters this weekend. Anyone who debates if this movie should be shown should consider the following points:

The Kennedy Assassination – Probably the most played video and analyzed story of the last forty years. There is not one week that goes by without something on the tele about JFK. Whether it’s the scenes of the motorcade in Dallas or the incessant oblations to Camelot and Jackie’s wardrobe, the Kennedy’s get more coverage than any President since JFK was actually in office. In fact, do a Google Search on the word ‘assassination.’ What did you find? The second, third and seventh hits I got were about...guess who? JFK. And I only did a search on the word, not the person!

Viet Nam – Since we are at war, how many comparisons and parallels are being drawn by the press to Viet Nam? Tons! From politicians to the complicitous media, Viet Nam ranks high in over exposure on regular and cable television.

Watergate – Probably a tie with Viet Nam in the amount of attention the press continues to give this bungled 3rd rate break-in to DNC Offices in DC.

9/11 – How many times have you seen the images of the Twin Towers collapsing or the hole in the Pentagon from the other hijacked plane in the last four years? Not many. Why? Unlike the three events above, 9/11 as an event, makes for ‘bad press’ in the press. You see, the lefties that control the papers and the airwaves can’t show images of 9/11 since what happened on that date is the justification used to destroy the tally-wackers in Afghaninstan and it's the reason we used to liberate Iraq. And certainly the press would not use those images to remind Americans about the cause of our war on terror since it shatters its anti-war, anti-Bush agenda.

I say show the new Flight 93 film on television as soon as possible. Pipe it into every HS and college class. Show it on all the major networks and the cable stations. Show it 24/7 from now until our military finds and kills Bin Laden.

I say show all, and I mean all the images of 9/11 to Americans any time some pacifist dope smokin peace queer says, 'Bush Lied-People Died', 'No WMDs', 'Wrong War/Wrong Place/Wrong Time', 'Quagmire.'

The Press wants us to forget why we are fighting!

Guard The Border Blogburst

1. L.A. County has 10 million people. 40% of all workers in L.A. County are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

2. Of the 10 million people in L.A. County, 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak primarily Spanish. Of the 14 million people in California, 5.6 million primarily speak other than English.

3. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

4. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

5. Over two-thirds of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

6. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

7. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

8. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

9. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

10. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish language only.

We need to look at the experience of California as inevitable for the rest of us - if we don't, we're only burying our heads in the sand and bequeathing that future to our children! After all, if we keep merrily careening down the road to California, we can't be dumbfounded when we actually end up in California, can we?!

Here are a few more facts on a national scale:

1. Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 36% are on assistance/welfare. More on welfare provided to immigrants.

2. Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration. More on immigration as the primary contributor to our population explosion.

3. The United States receives more immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined.

4. The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET (after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University].

5. The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE.

6. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

All Aboard - Rosie O'Donnell's HBO Movie

I saw Rosie O’Donnell’s docu-bio ‘All Aboard’ on HBO last night – the sea cruise aimed at same sex couples (and straight folks too) taped in 2004.

A way to show this cruise and what it represents would have been much better served if O’Donnell was in the wings as opposed to being a central figure. Why? First, I think she does her cause a disservice with her militant attitude about gay rights. If your goal is to sway the majority opinion of this nation, which is ostensibly against you economically, morally and socially, then why look sulky, angry and nasty? Why have a bit that calls out Senators who voted for a bill in Congress to ban same-sex marriages or a Constitutional Amendment barring the same? (She called out Sen. McCain by name – her ‘buddy’). And just a note to O’Donnell: there were a lot of Democrats who voted against the gay stuff in Congress – it was lots of Congressman who think the gay agenda is wrong, not just Republicans, Rosie! Most of the time O’Donnell looked mad – not very ‘gay’ or happy as opposed to the hundreds of people on the ship that certainly had a ‘rosier’ disposition that she did.

Excluding the overt oblations to Saint Rosie, I thought the folks who were on that cruise were just being regular people. These folks certainly were not the kind of cranks I’ve seen on the Mall in DC during Gay Day parades. The folks on that cruise were well educated, articulate, professional and passionate about their beliefs in how and why they want to live their lives. And I say, Bravo (or Brava). I say this for the sake of those people who saving children from the welfare and foster home nightmare we have in this country. Most of the children of the same sex couples were not the same race as their mommies or daddies. In fact, many of those kids were saved from birth mothers who were drug addicts or in jail. And what is wrong with giving a child the opportunity to have a better life with a same sex couple than allowing a child to languish in and outgrow a corrupt, criminal and destructive system like foster care?

If you find this topic revolting or repulsive, let me ask you this? Have you ever known a child that is in foster care? I worked with foster kids while in college and it was the saddest thing I ever experienced in my life – more depressing than a Hospice stint I did for my fraternity. These poor kids had little hope of adoption because of repressive laws and the leviathan bureaucracy of foster care at the state and federal level. If you get a chance to see this film, look at the faces of the kids. It doesn’t matter one wit to those kids who is putting them to bed at night, loving them, feeding them, clothing them and helping them get adjusted to the rigors of life.

Now all that said, do I agree with legalizing same sex marriage? Nope! But I agree with Civil Unions and the same economic breaks that heterosexual couples have. And I agree that adoption laws across the board in this nation need to be re-written to move all children out of state control and into as many homes as possible, hetero and same sex. This is where my support of same sex anything stops. I don’t want this lifestyle taught in schools. I don’t want books on shelves in schools about it. It’s a personal issue and a lifestyle choice that should not be taught in any school anywhere. Last time I checked my memory of going through K-12, there were no classes or books about how to be heterosexual!

I feel sorry in a way for these folks in this film. I do. Each person carries so much emotional baggage with him and her throughout life that to have the crisis of sexual identity must be agonizingly painful. I can’t imagine the psychological struggles that someone has to endure with sexual identity crisis knowing how society perceives this lifestyle. But when this lifestyle is put on a case by case, person by person level, I separate the politics of Rosie O’Donnell’s attempt at mainstream acceptance of all that the gay political lobby tries to foist on our schools, churches, and popular culture and think about these people as ‘people’, not a political agenda. This is where Rosie gets it wrong and will always get it wrong.

Be gay all you want to. Change the laws of adoption. But the majority opinion in this nation and nearly all religions is still heterosexual. And those in the majority have the right to think this way just as homosexuals think they have a right to live the way they want to. But, Rosie, don’t ask for rights based on sexual preference other than adoption and Civil Unions and economic parity. That is asking for more than you are legally or morally entitled to. And it seemed that most of the folks on this cruise were sailing in a different direction than O’Donnell.

Where Have I Been?

It has been a week and a few days since I posted.

Why?  As the GOV in Blazing Saddles so eloquently quipped, ‘Work, work, work, - work, work, work…hello boys, I missed you!’

Also, I am tired of the issues dominating the news:  a) Gas and b) Immigration!  Gas is expensive and there are millions of illegals in the US.  Get over both of these issues, please.

Solution for a:
Solution for b:

Other than that, Easter was great and the weather in FL could not be better.

The Meaning of Easter and Passover

The Meaning of Easter

"I declare unto you the gospel . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:1-4"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." John 11:25

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9

You can know the true meaning of Easter in your life today by taking these steps:

1. Recognize that without Christ you are separated from God. In honest repentance admit your need to be saved: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

2. Realize that God loves you, and believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Receive the risen Christ into your life by faith, and trust Him as your Savior: "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12).

The Meaning of Passover

"On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the LORD'S Passover" (Leviticus 23:5).

"Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. . . . And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD'S Passover " (Exodus 12:5-6,11).

The Old Testament Passover is a memorial to God passing over the houses of the children of Israel when He killed the firstborn of man and beast in Egypt, during the night of the fourteenth.
Happy Easter - Happy Passover

Guard The Border Blogburst

Due to the immigration rallies going on this week, Guard the Borders wanted to give you, our readers, some in-person coverage. This is a follow up to Monday's Blogburst and includes photos, audio files of on-the-spot interviews, and personal observations from Heidi at ER (Houston), Greg at DeMediacratic Nation (Phoenix), and Jake and MJ at Freedom Folks (Chicago). by Heidi @ Euphoric Reality

On Monday, I attended the pro-illegal/amnesty rally in downtown Houston. I was pretty sick and really shouldn't have been out, but I wanted to see what was going on with the people, the politicians, the media, the reconquistas, and get a feel for the overall tone of the rally. I was by myself, and honestly pretty nervous. Kit was even more nervous for me, because she fretted that I would start something if I saw our flag being dishonored in any way. Since such actions were pretty common at the previous rallies, she was right to be worried! I would have.

PICT0046.JPG

But lessons have been learned. The backlash from the overt anti-American sentiment displayed at previous rallies resulted in significantly toned down rhetoric here in Houston. The event organizers had really gone out of their way to make sure that protesters were carrying American flags, and they even tried to start scattered chants of "U.S.A!", though with little enthusiastic success. Nevertheless, a conscious effort was expended to mask the anti-Americanism of the previous demonstrations. Privately, I think the efforts are too little, too late - but for the marzipan sensibilities of the hovering press, it was probably enough.

I was alone and a bit nervous about stepping into the crowd, so I stood on the sidelines keeping an eye open for unusual signs or anyone that looked like they knew what they were doing. Once I spotted someone, I stepped into the surging crowd and asked my first question, "Do you speak English?" Most did not, and none of the women I asked could speak English, or so they told me.

The following .mp3 audio files are conversations I had with people in the crowd. I didn't try and engage anyone in a debate, I just wanted them to tell me in their own words why they thought they were there or what they believed. Here's what they think, in their own words:

PICT0047.JPG

There was this one guy whose audio didn't turn out but I wanted to tell you about him since he was quite a character. He caught my eye because was walking around in a black and white prison costume, with his hands handcuffed together. The sign he was holding protested that he was not a criminal. He told me he didn’t want to be “oppressed” anymore. He has been in America for about 15 years, illegal the whole time. His two kids were born here and are American citizens. He said all he wanted was citizenship. I asked him when he filed his paperwork to apply for citizenship. He said he hadn't. I asked him how he could become a citizen without actually filing the paperwork, and why hadn't he if it meant so much to him? He said it was too hard, but with this new law, he'd just "get it". "Get what?" I asked. He said, "Get what I deserve - to be American". I asked him if he'd then file the paperwork and pay the fine to make himself eligible for the amnesty and he just looked at me blankly. I then understood that he thinks the politicians just wave their hands and grant citizenship. And you know what, if the Senate passes their amnesty bill, he's probably more right than me.
While the crowd chanted, "Si, se puede!", I saw a group of high school students. One of them, Moses, agreed to tell me what those words meant to him: Another variation on the theme of "Get It."

PICT0048.JPG

This next guy to the left is Carlos, and he advocates brotherly love and no borders anywhere. Needless to say, his ideas were stunningly stupid. You can tell when I was talking to him that at times I was at a loss as to how to continue the conversation. The long pauses you hear are because I was in speechless awe of someone's raw naiveté (stupidity?), and I was trying very hard to maintain a neutral poker face. See if you can follow his [il]logic. I just gave up at the end... The No Borders Anywhere Guy

My next conversation is with Steve, an American, proud socialist, and Fidel Castro fan. I wonder how people get so misinformed - they must really have to work hard at it. Like this guy, who's obviously worked harder than most: The Marxist..

PICT0051.JPG

I had a conversation with this guy (behind the Zapata sign), Perfecto, about why Mexicans won't expend their energies trying to improve Mexico. He's convinced it's impossible because of how corrupt the Mexican government is. He thinks it's much easier to change America than Mexico. Hmm. BTW, I had a Freudian slip in there when I asked about Vicente Fox being "arrested" - oops - I meant "elected". Zapata Sign - Perfecto.

PICT0045.JPG

I made my way down to the front of the crowd where the Democratic politicians were regaling the crowd with Big Promises. This one guy kept calling the Latinos his "brothers and sisters" in "the struggle". The audio is poor, but I'm including it so you can hear the Sunday-go-to-meetin' preachy tone of his voice. He promises that after amnesty, they'll get the wages they deserve, just like all working Americans - starting at $11/hour.. Now what have we already told you guys about the temporary anesthesia of the benefits of so-called "cheap labor"? It'll be history as soon as the Senate gives amnesty to millions of illegal laborers. Employers will be forced to pay illegals what they refuse to pay Americans right now. It's a lose/lose proposition.

I was on my way out of the rally when I was stopped by an older gentleman who was collecting signatures for a petition to enable Carole Keeton Strayhorn, "One Tough Grandma!" to run for governor of Texas. I had already signed a petition previously, but I asked him for her views on illegal immigration: Carole Keeton Strayhorn.mp3

Let's skip over to Phoenix, Arizona and check in with DeMediacratic Nation to see how the Day of Action played out there. All links are of photos of the rally in Phoenix:

Early on, he
reported:

At the moment a walk-around is pretty laid back with people just lounging around and waiting. The air is filled with the sound of fiesta, with speakers blaring music from south of the border. Some school aged people at the capital are preparing to wander and get people to register to vote. It's pretty quiet, but I hear there's a couple people on the way.

City of Phoenix officials just said 130k on the way to the park.
Here they come and the public park quickly filled up.

Blandly Urbane sums up his final post of photos by remarking on the end result: "Overall it was just a mass of people walking. The lessons were learned and the Stars and Stripes were everywhere. You can protest/march all you want, but if the message is one of legalizing the illegal - it just defies logic to me."

Up in Chicago, the ever-interepid Jake and MJ
covered the pro-illegal rally, up close and personal. MJ relates what kind of reaction her Tancredo/Sensenbrenner '08 t-shirt elicited from the rally attendees:

I did get a reaction though, judging by Gutierrez's comments, and some from those around me. The thoughtfully intelligent responses from the crowd around me included -- and I quote:

"Traitor!"
"Stinkin' t-shirt! That's a stinkin' t-shirt!"
"Wanna take a pee pee."
"Smell somethin' bad."
"Who's Tancredo?"
"He's that anti-immigrant *expletive*."
"Would like to take a pee pee."
"What's that smell?"
MJ also wrote about how illegal aliens are stealing a voice in our government. Then, as she listened to her elected representatives, or what she and Jake call RPWs (race-pandering whores), she realized that they are giving our country away:

My elected representatives are giving away the rights of the American people, the value and power of democracy, the very voice of the citizens of this country, to those who have broken our laws to come, stay, and work here. They are using these lawbreakers to try and drown out my voice -- the voice of a citizen -- a resident of Durbin's Illinois -- a resident of Gutierrez's 4th congressional district.
This concludes our in-the-mix coverage of the National Day of Action. We go wandering around in huge crowds so you don't have to! In the meantime, make sure you've faxed and/or called your senators. They need to have a huge stack of NO AMNESTY messages waiting for them when they get back to work!

FIFA Condemns Israel, Not Hammas

FIFA is the governing body of world soccer and it's getting on the bandwagon with all the other countries and hate groups that routinely target Israel for anything it does.

Read this article from Tom Gross at NRO.

The world's beautiful game is also incredibly powerful. In 2002, over four billion people watched World Cup matches all over the globe. And when Yugoslavia was disintegrating back in the 1990s, both Serbs and Croats signed a five hour truce so Yugoslavia could play a World Cup qualifying match. That's pretty amazing for a sport to do that. After the game ended, each side went back to shooting each other.

I hope FIFA gets its head out of the pitch and does not go through with its idiotic stance on Israel. In fact, becuase of FIFA's stand on Israel, I hope it wins the World Cup. That would put FIFA and all of Israel's enemies on their backsides.

Retro-Metro-Sexual Moses – ABC’s 10 Commandments

Bravo to ABC for airing a Bible story in prime time. In the sea of secular doo doo networks foist on the viewing public each and every night, this was a welcomed treat. And an ‘ok Moses’ is better than no Moses at all

Story-wise, the new ABC version was pretty much ok. ABC's take of Moses being conflicted with what God's will was pitted against man's frailites and spiritual struggles was a bit lost since I could not take this version of Moses too seriously. This Moses just blended into the desert scenery like everything else in the film.

There were some obvious licenses taken with characters like Moses’ step brother, and the sexual assault on a slave – completely not needed. The new version hits all the main parts of Bible, the burning bush, pillar of fire, etc. What I found in the new version’s story was the violence. DeMille’s take on the wrath of God was far more subtle than ABC’s version. DeMille guided the viewer around the plagues. ABC’s version put you right in the middle of them – open sores and all. I’m sure the ratings folks had a tough time with this film.

Production-wise, the new version is a great made for television movie. To compare it to the 70MM Big Screen ’56 production is not fair. I remember the first time I saw the 10 Commandments on television as a child. The first thing that moved me was color. DeMille’s film is one of the most visually appealing and strikingly vibrant films of that era or any – the colors of the blood-ridden Nile, the robes of Moses and the contrast to the imperial white of Brenner, the fires of the urns in the palaces, the parting of the Red Sea – amazing. The special effects in the new version were ok for television, except for the five second nuclear mushroom cloud imposed on the screen when Moses was parting the Red Sea. The new version was shot in a real dessert which meant that everything was brown – all brown – all the time…depressing.

Even if you agree that comparing a made for television movie can’t be done with a 70MM movie, an area where comparisons are appropriate is acting. I could not identify with any actor/actress in the new version. The fella who played Moses looked like a cross between Russell Crowe and Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings. His speech was stilted and the licenses taken with dialogue were noticeable as for the obvious reference to the Holocaust when Moses implores the Israelites to ‘Never Forget.’ The only good acting sequence came when Moses told his brother and several other slaves about his conversations with God. The rhythm and pacing of the dialogue was unique to the rest of the film where, when words were not used, the senses should have been gripped by the other parts of the production – music, light, sound, costumes, scenery. The rest of the cast was forgettable. ABC’s Pharaoh was certainly no Yul Brenner. The pitting of wills DeMille portrayed was excellent. ABC’s version was a yawn.

Again, bravo for ABC to take on this project. One thing this film made me do was re-read Exodus. Not too many films can make you do that.

Anti-War Hostages Air-Dropped Back into Iraq

CLASSIFICATION: None
Caveats: None
From British Special Ops (SAS) Commad April 10, 2006:

The British military announced today that they had air-dropped former hostages Norman Kembler, James Loony and Harmeet Singh Sooden into the Iraqi desert, just a week after their rescue from a house west of Baghdad. The men had been held by insurgents for four months.

Since their release, the three men, all from a Christian Peacemaker team, have spoken with deep admiration and respect for their captors, while not offering any degree of gratitiude to the British commandos who risked their lives to save them.

“We realize now that we made a huge mistake,” said Captain Ian Coates of the British Army, “and it was time to return these men to the people they love and respect."

Coates wistfully related the story of how the former hostages were told of the decision to reunite them with their brethren in Iraq.

"To keep it a surprise, we used our commandos to gather the men in the middle of the night," he said. "They were so surprised and excited that we needed to duct tape their mouths and tie them up. But there was no doubt that they were overjoyed to be returning to Iraq. Their eyes were as big as saucers, and Kembler even wet his jammies in excitement!"

The men were whisked by military jet back to a British Military base in Kuwait, and flown by helicopter into Iraq at dawn. Captain Coates struggled to keep his composure as he described the reunion.“The air drop was a remarkable moment, something I was honored to see,” he said. “The men were writhing around, screaming and crying with joy. There wasn’t a dry eye in the helicopter as we rolled them out.”

The British Military was concerned that the men would not be picked up quickly, leaving them to wander in the dessert. So each man was given a bright red parachute emblazoned with one of the famed Danish Mohammed cartoons.

“The cartoons really did the trick,” said Captain Coates. “As they drifted downward, you could see the insurgents gathering to welcome them. Some had even set fires to help guide them as they landed. We could hear the chants of welcome even over the whir of the rotors. Did you ever see Born Free? It was like that, but better.”

Coates would not comment on reports that the three men were all wearing “Jesus Rules, Mohammed Drools” T-Shirts.

Guard The Border Blogburst - April 10

Monday, April 10, has been dubbed by pro-illegal activists as the National Day of Action for Immigrant Justice. After two weeks of both large-scale and ad hoc protests, they are trying to bring it all together before their big Walk Out on May 1st.

There are more protests scheduled around the nation - more than 100 have been registered at
www.april10.org. Find out what’s going on in your town or city – you’d be surprised by some of the locales of the organized protests.

While the rest of America goes on with making a living and having a life, these rallies could very easily be fizzling out or, on the other hand, gaining momentum and proliferating. (Personally, I'm wondering just how many days of work and school these people can skip before it starts to hurt.) Either way, Americans want to know what is being said and done by these interlopers at the rallies. We must keep an eye on things, because our faint-of-heart senators won't. They are on an ill-deserved two week vacation, after all.

Several members of the Guard the Borders Blogburst are planning to observe the rallies in their areas and report back with photos, quotes, and/or more. So this edition of the Blogburst will be presented in two parts; today's notice and a follow-up on Tuesday with what we glean from various rallies across the nation. Stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, let's make sure that our senators have a stack of NO AMNESTY faxes and phone messages when they get back from vacation. They still have a lot of debating to do, and we need to be sure that they are absolutely clear on where we, as Americans, stand on the issue.

Ring Knockers - Marine Gunny / Start The Week With A Laugh

One day, a Marine Gunny (Gunnery Sergeant) went to the Officer's Club with his Colonel to eat lunch. When they entered the main dining room, they found the place was quite crowded. They did notice three Lieutenants sitting at a table with two empty chairs, so the Colonel asked them if they could join them. They promptly invited them to join them. They ordered lunch and joined them in conversation as they ate.

At one point, the Gunny mentioned that he had observed characteristics about many officers from which he could determine the source of their commissioning. The Lieutenants were eager to hear about this and asked if he could tell how each of them had been commissioned.

The Gunny turned to the Lieutenant on his left and said he went through ROTC. TheLieutenant confirmed that was correct and asked how he had noted this. The Gunny replied that the Lieutenant, through his conversation, seemed to have a strong academic background but limited military experience.

The Gunny then told the Lieutenant on his right that he had gone through OCS with previous enlisted service. The Lieutenant confirmed that this was correct and also asked how he had determined this. The Gunny said, again through his conversation, that the Lieutenant seemed to have a firm military background and a lot of common sense.

The Lieutenant across the table from the Gunny asked if he had determined his source of commission. The Gunny replied that the Lieutenant had graduated from the United States Naval Academy. The Lieutenant stated that was correct and asked if he had noticed his high level of intelligence, precise military bearing, or other superior qualities acquired at the United States Naval Academy. The Gunny replied that it was none of these that led to his determination. He had simply observed the Lieutenant's class ring while he was picking his nose.

You just can't take those Marine Gunnies anywhere - Uh Rah!

Wal-Mart to Add Jobs in Struggling Areas

(hat tip - Hispanic Pundit)

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer, said Tuesday it plans to build more than 50 stores in struggling communities over the next two years, as part of a goal to create between 15,000 and 25,000 jobs.

Wal-Mart said it will build the stores in neighborhoods with high crime or unemployment rates, on sites that are environmentally contaminated, or in vacant buildings or malls in need of revitalization.

The Bentonville, Ark., company said it expects many of the jobs will be in minority communities and could generate more than $100 million in state and local tax revenue. It already has over 1.3 million U.S. employees.

Wal-Mart already has plans to open between 335 and 370 new U.S. stores this year after 341 last year and has said it sees room for more than 1,500 additional stores in the United States in the coming years, on top of nearly 3,200 it already operates.

Enterprise Impact Zones indeed! Wal Mart is what Jack Kemp's Enterprise Impact Zones could not do back when he was the head of HUD. I wish WM well. It's pro-American, anti-Union, everyone works, everyone wins. As the Hispanic Pundit said in his post, wait and see the unions and anti-progress wonks come out of the woodwork if WM tries to setup shop in a depressed area.

Katie Couric Is No Dan Rather

To lift one of my favorite Sesame Street kids routines, ‘One of these things is not like the other – one of these things just doesn’t belong – Can you tell me which one of these things is not like the other before I finish this song?’ (you know the tune!)

A) Edward R Murrow
B) Walter Cronkite
C) Dan Rather
D) Connie Chung
E) Katie Couric

Answer: E

What is CBS doing? The selection of Katie Couric to fill in the slot for its evening news has to be about ratings because the choice of Katie to take the brass ring at CBS can’t be about tele-journalism. If it was, why would she be on anyone’s list? She's not a journalist.

Say what you will about Dirty Dan and all his shortcomings, he was a journalist first and a really good one at that. Dan broke the Kennedy Assassination and he’s interviewed some of the most important people on the planet because of his credibility as a journalist. Can anyone see Katie walking the nation through 9/11 or interviewing the Pope? I can’t.

Since CBS is not serious about television journalism since it picked Katie to sit in the chair once occupied by some of the greatest journalists and anchors in tv history, I think I’ll just switch over to watch Sesame Street – it’s much more informative and the Muppets are better looking than Katie is.

Another Wish Come True - GATOR BAIT

Christmas Wish List December 13, 2005: 'I wish for no team West of the Mississippi to be in the Top 20 in any college sport (except Texas)'

Unbelievable - for those that have read my posts over the last year - My God, it's been a whole year! (Blog Anniversary Post on its way) - you know how much I hate the Main Stream Sports Media, hero worship, and the bias against teams in the south, especially the SEC.

So when a team from the SEC wins anything, I live to see cheerleaders cry and the MSM apologize.

But the Gators win last night was special. There was nothing that CBS could do to manufacture any relevance to UCLAs appallingly poor performance; although CBS tried its best to move pathos over ethos. The very first crowd shot before the game started was of Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton. Then all through the first half, we saw no less than five shots of Lew and Billy. (In the second half butt-whompin, Lew and Bill saw no camera time - wonder why?) Then there was the angle of former UCLA Coach John Wooden in the hospital. Ok. Nice story, but why is that relevant? Because he won 12 titles with UCLA! Again, so what? Legacy, history...fellas, there was no story here.

The real story here is that UCLA was lucky to get into to finals. The lead story should have been FL's 14 point win margin against all other tourney opponents - not even mentioned until the second half. The real story was FL's 17 game win streak getting to the finals. The real story was not UCLA Alumni, a sick coach and a legacy, but an exceptional performance by a great team and a class act coach and program.

The Gators deserve to put among NCAA Tourney/Finals great teams. This was a magnificent performance by a great coach and bunch of kids who showed more heart, talent, and tenacity than any team since Christian Leattner buried KY in 92.

It's Great To Be A Florida Gator!
